2. Atlantics + Introduction

Join Garden Cinema for a screening of Atlantics by Mati Diop. The film follows Ada, who is betrothed to Omar, but is deeply in love with Souleiman. However, when Omar dies due to a fire on his wedding day, his fiancee, Ada, is suspected of being involved in his death. The film will be introduced by Nobunye Levin and will be followed by a post-film discussion. The film is screening as part of Garden Cinema’s 
Francophone West African Cinema programme.

Join Ritzy Cinema for a special preview of Rye Lane from breakout director Raine Allen-Miller, Rye Lane is a romantic comedy that stars Vivian Oparah (Class, The Rebel) and David Jonsson (Industry, Deep State), as Yas and Dom, two twenty-somethings both reeling from bad break-ups, who connect over the course of an eventful day in South London – helping each other deal with their nightmare exes, and potentially restoring their faith in romance.

4. St Patrick’s Film Festival 2023

Irish Film London (IFL) are back with their annual St Patrick’s day film festival. Following where last year’s festival left off, the 2023 festival will take place at venues across London, from Camden to Kilburn and from West London to the West End. This year’s programme includes previews of major new releases and events catering specifically for London’s extensive Irish community.

5. Hong Kong Film Festival 2023

The Hong Kong Film Festival UK (HKFF UK) aims to shine an international spotlight on a new wave of cinema from Hong Kong and the Hong Kong diaspora in the UK, which blossomed especially in an era of drastic transformation. With a 37-film programme spanning features and documentaries as well as shorts, HKFF (UK) returns this March with a Festival titled “Home Away From Home”.

6. Human Rights Watch Film Festival 2023

Barbican Cinema; Thu 16 – Fri 24 Mar

Celebrate the power of individuals to make a difference at the 27th Human Rights Watch Film Festival in London. This year’s festival presents 10 film screenings at the Barbican from 16 – 24 March with in-depth Q&As with filmmakers, film participants, activists, and Human Rights Watch researchers following each screening. All films are also available to watch online on the Human Rights Watch Film Festival streaming platform from Mon 20 Mar at 12.01am to Sun 26 Mar at 11.59pm.

The programme covers a broad range of themes and topics and reflects the festival’s ethos of celebrating the diversity of content and perspective, but what shines through is the determination and courage of individuals to stand up for their freedom and rights.

7. 2023 BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival

The 37th edition of BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival (15 to 26 March), one of the world’s most significant and long-standing queer film events in the LGBTQIA+ calendar, revealed its full programme today. BFI Flare will take place at BFI Southbank, and also offer a selection of titles on BFI Player to UK-wide audiences, and to international audiences via Five Films for Freedom – now in its eighth year, in partnership with The British Council.

BFI Southbank will be buzzing with special events and DJ nights during the festival, and for the first time will present Flare Expanded for the first four days of the festival from 16 to 19 March. BFI Flare is divided into three thematic programme strands: HeartsBodies and Minds and this year presents 28 world premieres (across features and shorts) with 58 features and 90 shorts from 41 countries. Tickets go on sale on 22 February for BFImembers and 24 February for the general public.

10. KINOTEKA 2023

KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival returns to serve you an annual dose of Poland’s diverse film culture.

Organised by the Polish Cultural Institute and supported by the Polish Film Institute, the KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival will return to cinema screens for its 21st edition from 9 March to 27 April 2023, presenting an exciting line-up that spans over 60 years of Polish cinema. Showcasing a finely curated selection of extraordinary new features, many of them premiere in the UK, the festival simultaneously explores the depth of Polish cinema’s past with exceptionally presented screenings of classic films from some of the country’s most renowned filmmakers, including Jerzy Skolimowski who will be in attendance for a season dedicated to his filmography at BFI Southbank. Skolimowski’s latest sensation EO (2022) has been nominated for Best International Feature at the 2023 Academy Awards, and this season encompasses the career of a Polish master who is still at the top of his game after over 60 years behind the camera. With its diverse programme of compelling and challenging cinema, Kinoteka continues to explore the innovative filmic output Poland has to offer through screening events, special presentations, guest-led intros, Q&As, workshops and more.
