Spotlight on MA Screenwriting

Some highlights from MA Screenwriting students and alumni who are making waves in the industry with their achievements in the field of screenwriting.

1.Theo Forrest

Theo Forrest, a writer from Pembrokeshire, was awarded the prestiious BAFTA Tinopolis Scholarship to support his MA in Screenwriting at University of the Arts London. Theo is the third MA Screenwriting student to be supported by the fantastic BAFTA Scholarship and Mentoring system.

Growing up, Theo discovered his love for storytelling and its ability to transport audiences into new worlds and different viewpoints. With his desire to tell stories on the screen, Theo embarked upon his Television degree at Falmouth University where he developed his screenwriting and had the honour of having his short film scripts produced by fellow students. He will continue to hone his craft while undertaking a master’s degree at UAL.

Theo said: “Receiving the Tinopolis scholarship is completely surreal. Being supported in this early stage of my career is incredible and I’m so honoured to be chosen as a recipient. The scholarship not only provides funding that allows me to be entirely dedicated to my degree without financial stress, but also priceless access to a mentor. Having a connection to someone who can help answer questions and guide me is invaluable and gives me the confidence to take the next steps in my career. I will forever be grateful for this life changing scholarship.”

2. Mark Clompus

BBC Doctors

Mark Clomps has written another episode (Series 23 Episode 131) of @BBCDoctors which is about to air at 1.45 p.m. on the 02/12/22. .

Mark, a graduate himself of MA Screenwriting at LCC and the BBC Writers’ Academy, Mark has written children’s television, cartoons, drama documentaries and short plays.

His television credits include The Animated Bean, Bodystory and Missing, which he also storylined, as well as BBC Doctors, where he is a core writer. He has also written more than 20 episodes of Eastenders.

Mark is also an Associate Lecturer for BA (Hons) Live Events and Television and BA (Hons) Film and Television and MA Screenwriting. As a working writer, he gives students access to the process of programme-making and as an alumnus of UAL, will always aim to equip them to start a career in their chosen field.

3. Anna Symon

Anna Symon

Anna Symon is set to write a six-part drama inspired by notorious British jewel thief Joan Hannington for ITV starring Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner.

Joan, is set in the brash and aspirational London of the 1980s and follows Turner as criminal Hannington, whose exploits earned her the nickname ‘The Godmother’ in the city’s underworld. Filming will begin in London in spring next year, based on Hannington’s memoirs. Writer Anna Simon (Mrs WilsonThe Essex Serpent) with the diamond thief and criminal mastermind while penning the scripts.

Anna is a graduate herself of the MA Screenwriting course at LCC and 4Screenwriting programme. Since then her work has been nominated for BAFTA, BIFA and Writer’s Guild awards.

Anna’s recent credits as a Writer and Executive Producer incluse The Essex Serpent, a six part limited series for Apple TV Plus, an adaptation of Sarah Perry’s best-selling novel, starring Clare Danes,Tom Hiddleston and directed by Clio Barnard.
